WIne Story – Weingut Martin Wassmer

Weingut Martin Waßmer is a 38-hectare property located in Bad Krozingen-Schlatt, Baden, Germany. The area is situated in the southwestern part of the country, bordering Switzerland and France.  The Waßmer family began producing their own wines in 1997, drawing on their extensive experience cultivating several outstanding vineyard sites and a deep admiration for grand Burgundy wines. As the years went by, a distinctive style emerged, influenced by Burgundy yet unmistakably shaped by Martin Waßmer's signature touch. The wines' precise character also beautifully reflects the extraordinary terroir of sites such as Dottinger Castellberg, Schlatter Maltesergarten, and Staufener Schlossberg.  Weingut Martin Waßmer vineyards are cultivated following organic principles, and the winery is a member of Slow Food.

All of the wines produced at Weingut Martin Waßmer are hand-harvested and meticulously selected to the cellar. At there, Martin Waßmer uses barriques crafted by the best Burgundian coopers to age the wines. As a result, the wines have a deep colour for reds and intense yellow for whites, with fruity aromas and well-integrated woody notes. Overall, these wines can be characterized as having a Burgundian style.

The vineyard Dottinger Castellberg has highly calcareous soils. The steep, terraced vineyards comprise calcareous marl, weathered limestone, and conglomerate stone in some sections.
