Region: Hambach, Pfalz, Germany Quality Level: Qualitatswein Grape Varieties: 100% Riesling Sweetness Level: Trocken, Dry Alcohol Level: 12.5% Size: 750ml
Tasting Notes: Our Riesling village wine is crafted from grapes grown in our vineyards located in the charming village of Hambach, nestled right below the Hambach castle. This wine is distinguished by its refined varietal aroma and a refreshing acidity. The slow fermentation process at moderate temperatures under controlled conditions results in a wine with a high expression of varietal aroma. The lively acidity in this wine is due to the slightly cooler climate in the village of Hambach, as compared to Ruppertsberg. Food pairing : Fish, pasta, salad Wine Story – Dr. Josef Kohr |
The Köhr family has been operating their winery in the town of Ruppertsberg, located in the Palatinate region, for centuries. They have records of their vineyards dating back to 1648. Ruppertsberg is famous for its stunning views, ancient archaeological finds and viticulture. The family's vineyards aresituated in significant areas like Reiterpfad, Nußbien, Linsenbusch, andHoheburg. The climate in the Mittelhaardt terroir is favorable for growing grapesas it gets around 2100 hours of sunshine and just 516 mm of precipitation. This makes it the perfect location to produce Rieslings, which are known for their maximum ripeness, intense varietal aroma, and moderate acidity.
Dr. Josef Köhr is a fascinating wine grower who has successfully incorporated new trends in winemaking into a traditional winery. Under this guidance, the winery has diversified its production to focus on wines thatdepart from the traditional German varieties. In addition to Riesling, the vineyard cultivates several French grape varieties, such as Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, and has made significant advancements in aging their wines in oak barrels. The German Agricultural Society has recognized their wines in 2020, 2021, and 2023, and some of their wines are suitable for vegans.
