Tasting notes:

Our white Fumé (smoky) wines are selected for their grown quality.  Due to the eastern exposure of this area, the first light of the sun heats up the ground early in the morning. The vines are rooted in highly skeletal red sandstone soil with isolated lime deposits from microorganisms that died  millions of years ago. Our Superior Sauvignon Blanc from the Ruppertsberg Nußbien vineyard has a unique microclimate. The wine has a complex fragrance with aromas of pear skin, tropical fruit, paprika, currant, and vanilla, and blends perfectly into the soft acidity, bringing out its density.  This Sauvignon was matured in 600-litre wooden barrels according to the French model. This adds a further dimension of tertiary aromas to the complex primary aromatics.

Food pairing :  beef, cheese, salmon and tuna, dishes with intensive Umami flavour

WIne Story – Dr. Josef Kohr

The Köhr family has been operating their winery in the town of Ruppertsberg, located in the Palatinate region, for centuries. They have records of their vineyards dating back to 1648. Ruppertsberg is famous for its stunning views, ancient archaeological finds and viticulture. The family's vineyards aresituated in significant areas like Reiterpfad, Nußbien, Linsenbusch, andHoheburg. The climate in the Mittelhaardt terroir is favorable for growing grapesas it gets around 2100 hours of sunshine and just 516 mm of precipitation. This makes it the perfect location to produce Rieslings, which are known for their maximum ripeness, intense varietal aroma, and moderate acidity.

Dr. Josef Köhr is a fascinating wine grower who has successfully incorporated new trends in winemaking into a traditional winery. Under this guidance, the winery has diversified its production to focus on wines thatdepart from the traditional German varieties. In addition to Riesling, the vineyard cultivates several French grape varieties, such as Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, and has made significant advancements in aging their wines in oak barrels. The German Agricultural Society has recognized their wines in 2020, 2021, and 2023, and some of their wines are suitable for vegans.
